Roundups

They go by all kinds of different names — nonogram, picross, hanjie, griddlers, paint by numbers, and more — but there’s something magical about picross games. Like a cross between minesweeper and sudoku, it’s a pure test of logic. You find the hidden image by filling squares on a grid, given clues for how many — both altogether and in succession — are in each row and column.

It takes only seconds to learn, but you could spend your whole life mastering the formula, and it’s incredibly addictive — not only have I wiled away many an hour, but I got my sister-in-law, brother, and girlfriend hooked at one time or another. Here, we’re going to look at streaming, discovery, syncing, and even playing apps that work very well on your Nexus 7, 10 or other Android tablet.

When Google launched Keep a couple of months ago, everyone started comparing it with similar apps that have been around much longer. Although Evernote was the most talked about, there is no dearth of note-taking apps on the web or any of the popular mobile platforms. From plain text solutions to feature-packed mammoths, there is a ton of competition out there.

Having tried and endlessly switched between a whole bunch of apps over the years, I decided to give Keep a shot to check how it fared against some of the others that have come close to being a staple on my Galaxy Nexus.

Anything “mini” seems to be so popular these days. We have mini cars (think Mini Cooper), mini animal breeds (think toy poodles and Chihuahuas), and even mini candies (think miniature Snickers, etc.) Did you know there is such a thing as mini Android browsers? Social networking exploded with Facebook and most of us flocked to it like bees to a honey pot. Having an online identity became pretty much a no-brainer and the lure of catching up with all your friends and family from across the world in one place, getting updates about their life and checking out pictures of all their important events was too much to resist. It was a great idea and we loved it, adding all our long lost friends and near and distant relatives as a consequence.

The trouble, however, started amid growing concerns over security issues that we maybe letting on our private lives to more than just friends. Coupled with the realization that we may not really want our parents to check out pictures of that wild weekend party or our bosses to read that latest status update where we are cribbing about their unreal expectations, the need for a much more controlled online space opened up.
