Weekly Poll: What Do You Think of Samsung’s New Commercial?

Samsung’s latest TV ad focuses on a group of hipsters queuing up to get the latest iPhone. (Okay, that’s not explicitly stated, but it’s very strongly implied.)

The advert points out a couple of features where the Galaxy S II trumps the iPhone: 4G service, larger screen. But more than that, it pokes fun at the stereotypical image of an iPhone user:

“I could never get a Samsung. I’m too creative.”
“Dude, you’re a barista.”

“If it looks the same, how will people know I upgraded?”

As a sketch, it’s pretty funny, but as an ad… I’m not so sure. I always found the “I’m a Mac” “…and I’m a PC” adverts obnoxious, and the current “If you don’t have an iPhone – well, you don’t have an iPhone” adverts smug and misleading.

What do you think? Vote in the poll (you can select more than one option) and leave us a comment to let us know.

I love it. For one, it’s completely true. Also, it has become some sort of taboo to make fun of Apple. Whenever you speak I’ll of them, you incur the wrath of fanboys who attack you because that’s apparently not allowed.

I know tons of people who are blind to anything but the iPhone, and there is no convincing them otherwise.

I beg to differ; I’m an Apple user since about ’92 (hated Macs before then). I love Android and am happy for some good competition to the iPhone and iOS.

Competition is always good, on both sides of the coin. Keeps everyone on their toes.

Thanks for this! I needed a good laugh. That was very funny and anyone who takes this android/iPhone rivalry to heart is crazy. This was a really funny and just overall witty commercial. I Just clarifying what apple doesn’t have.

Can’t say I’ve ever bought an iPhone (or iPad, etc.) because it was the next big thing — I got my 1st gen iPhone about half a year after it was intro’d; same re/the 3G version, and didn’t get an iPad until a few months ago — I buy these things because it was made by a company whose equipment I generally trust to work whenever I need it.

I love this commercial because it’s soo TRUE! I got my first mac in January, and everyone in the Apple store were just like these people. This ad is great because I doubt Apple will ever make a commercial making fun of itself or its fangirls.
