10 Great Shopping and Deals Apps

This week rings the start of the holiday season and the shopping ordeal that comes with it. From Black Friday to Cyber Monday to the Christmas presents, everyone will be running around against the clock trying to find the best deals and gift items.

Last year, we covered some great apps for last-minute holiday shopping, but as Android grew and garnered more apps over the past twelve months, many new and cool contenders rose up, so it’s time we added more apps to that list.

AliExpress

Think of it as an equivalent to eBay with no Paypal requirement, AliExpress is a Chinese-based website where any vendor can sell their items in single units or bulk. Worldwide shipping is often available, item pages show how many have been ordered (so you can find the most popular sales in a category), and buyers can submit reviews which makes it easier to know if you’re getting a good product or not. The app lets you browse and search, purchase with your credit card, track your shipments, send messages to sellers, and leave them feedback.

Etsy

Billed as the world’s handmade marketplace, Etsy is a massive online service where anyone can sell their crafts, jewelry, accessories, and other exclusive items. It’s a great place to start your holiday shopping, as you are most likely to find special gift ideas there. The app lets users browse and search for products and buy them, but it is also useful for store owners to manage their pages and track their sales.

SlickDeals / Black Friday

Slickdeals, which I have already reviewed, is a community-driven deals and coupons app, where users submit offers as they come across them and other members vote, comment, and help you with your decision-making process. It’s the first app you’ll want to install if you live in the US, where most of the community and offers are found, because it covers the most retailers and doesn’t rely on a company forcing its deals on you.┬áThere’s also a Black Friday version of the app where you can find nothing but the deals to be expected on that day.

Groupon

Available in several countries around the world, Groupon is the most well-known group-purchasing service. Unbeatable deals in many categories ranging from accessories to travel experiences are offered by local businesses, and you have a short period of time to take advantage of them. The app lets you find nearby deals, purchase them, track and redeem them, all from your smartphone or tablet.

Grand St.

Grand St. is a curated store dedicated to innovative technology products. Granted, that’s a small niche, but you’re here reading AppStorm so odds are you belong to that niche. You will enjoy Grand St.’s beautiful and modern app design which shines a light on the products. Every item is handpicked by the team, reviewed, and comes with a detailed spec sheet and beautiful pictures. Nothing comes close to Grand St. if you’re a geek and you want to read and buy all the coolest gadgets while still enjoying your experience in the app.

Shpock: mobile yard sale

Yard sales are always a treasure trove of antique, quirky and useful items that you can get at excellent prices. They’re especially handy if you’re short on cash and looking for used items in good condition, or for selling some of your own. Shpock brings that yard sale experience to your smartphone, with the ability to snap a picture, pick a category, add a description and a price, and post your item in less than a minute. Shpock also lets you discover sales near you, search for specific categories or items, make offers and eventually purchases.

PR: Product & Price Checker

As an alternative to the well-known ShopSavvy, Price Rhythm stands on its own when it comes to barcode scanning and price comparison. Not only is the app great at finding the best prices in your currency online or in local stores, it also offers specs and comes with a recommendation tool that rates items based on several factors to help you make your purchase decision.

Beside comparing prices, Price Rhythm helps you quickly decide whether an item is worth purchasing or not.

shopkick: rewards for shopping

You’ll have to leave your house and walk into the store to make the most out of shopkick, but that’s the whole goal of the app. It rewards you with “kicks” for walking into partner stores, for scanning items and making purchases. You can later redeem these kicks for gift cards and discounts inside the store. shopkick also helps you prepare for your purchases beforehand, by letting you browse store items inside the app, or find deals and stores nearby.

Buy Me a Pie! Grocery List

If you’re preparing your holiday shopping, you are mostly likely to get lost with the different shopping lists and the groceries for various parties and dinners. That’s where Buy Me a Pie! comes into play, with a beautiful minimalist interface that will make grocery and shopping list management fun. There’s color-coding to group similar items, an easy way to specify amounts of each one, and a smart dictionary that suggests items as you type the first few letters.

Slice

There’s little that I can say about Slice more than what I already did in my review of the app. It is simply the must-have app for online shoppers as it will go through your inbox, find the emailed receipts and shipping details for your purchases, and present that data to you in a beautiful, searchable and trackable manner. Think of it as a combined package tracker and expense manager, with a few extra features thrown in for good measure.

The list above isn’t exhaustive, and you will find many more great Android shopping and deals apps on the Play Store. Are you using any of these ten apps, or ones from our previous shopping apps list? Or do you have a favorite that we haven’t mentioned here?
