Mobile World Congress has just recently wrapped up in Barcelona, ending a show full of announcements from the major Android stakeholders. Just as we did with CES in January, in this roundup we’ll take a look at some of the headliners from the show, from the HTC One series to the new Sony Xperia lineup.

While not every announcement may necessarily be covered, here are a few that stood out for us.

Yesterday I followed the Apple WorldWide Developers Conference. Like so many other thousands of people I was interested in seeing the new software and hardware Apple is so famous for. Though there was no new hardware, there was new software by the bucketload.

Besides OSX Lion and iCloud the anticipated iOS 5.0 was announced and I was expecting some fantastic new features to be rolled out. While many of these features are new and distinctive to Apple, some of them were very familiar to us Android users — and we took these for granted on our phones without paying them the slightest bit of attention. Google I/O has been happening this week in San Francisco and the conference was kicked off with some major announcements on the Android front. Big things are happening for Google’s position on the mobile front, including their new cloud-based music player, Android 3.1 for tablets, and the new version of Android for phones and tablets: Ice Cream Sandwich.

However, amongst all the exciting software announcements, Google also unveiled the Android Open Accessory Developer Kit, or the ADK. In the real world, this new development kit allows accessory makers to build native accessories for the Android platform which are connected via USB, in a similar way to Apple’s dock connector on their range of iOS devices and iPods.
